Holiday Grilled Cheese

If you have some extra left over food from the big holiday meal, you’ve likely just realized two things. One, using the term “holiday” is our effort to be politically correct, your left over’s may be from Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah or even Festivus (see video below). Two, you now see you have the ingredients for an epic grilled cheese sandwich!

Here is what we did at home on Boxing Day to create a one of a kind grilled cheese delight:

-Diced turkey (light and dark)
-Bacon
-Tomato
-Cheddar
-Havarti
-Spread cranberry on one slice of sourdough
-Drizzle balsamic vinegar on the other slice of sourdough
-Butter both sides of the outside of the sourdough
-Grill it nice and slow
It was a truly incredible holiday grilled cheese sandwich!

Grilled Cheese Academy

Could it be our most boring post ever? If you’d like some great grilled cheese ideas for home, feel free to try some of Mom’s original ideas out.

Also, we came across a great website called The Grilled Cheese Academy, a site full of great grilled cheese recipes and cheese listings funded by Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and Eat Wisconsin Cheese. That’s all, we have writers block today.

Ay-Caramba! He Ate It All!

Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck turned into Mom’s Grilled Cheese Kitchen the other night, as she stopped by her big brothers house with Mini-Mom to visit and hang out with her niece and nephew. Mom just happened to bring along some supplies from the truck and her 12 year old nephew Jackson decided he wanted to build his own grilled cheese creation. He named it, The Jackson 5. Why? Because it felt like it weighed 5 pounds. It turned out to be a massive triple-decker. The first layer was thick with cheddar and bacon, topped with a golden slice of sour dough. On top of that, a mound of Mom’s homemade chili….topped with another golden slice of sour dough. This was a triple decker-cheddar-bacon-chili-sour-dough-grilled cheese-monster! And yes, he ate it all!!! Growing boys need their food. Get yourself down to Mom’s today and for an extra $1.50 you can add chili to your grilled cheese delight. You’ll need extra napkins.

Cheesed by Air Canada

Hey, it looks like those sneaky aviators over at Air Canada might be borrowing from Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck. We noticed on their online magazine Air Canada enRoute, their creative writing gurus who get paid the big bucks have jumped on the grilled cheese bandwagon and refer to their grilled cheese story as ”served simply the way Mom made it”. This stinks of cheese plagiarism, well kinda, it’s pretty close to home if you know what I mean. If you Google “grilled cheese”, Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck is everywhere online (pat self on back). If you Google “grilled cheese Vancouver”, Mom’s owns the first page results (another pat). We’re just saying…. Debra Weiner at enRoute may want to write about the amazing gourmet grilled cheese that sits in Air Canada’s own back yard, and not in Cincinnati Ohio and is Mom approved already. Stop by any time Debra, lunch is on us. Thank you for flying with Mom’s :)

How To Make Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Every now and then, we simply need to share something we stubble across on YouTube, like this amateur video on how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Doesn’t this guy know anything……you never use a metal spatula on a Teflon pan!!! We have a warped sense of humor, hope you enjoy this video :)

Candace’s Favorite Food

Keeping with the Phineas and Ferb theme this week, because the kids have spoken and they love it……what is Candace’s favorite food from Phineas and Ferb? Answer: She likes Grilled Cheese sandwiches. She is also apparently allergic to dairy so the grilled cheese thing might be an error on behalf of the paparazzi. Congratulations, it’s Friday you made it through the week, come down to Mom’s today for the Friday special, The La Di Da  …..thinly sliced prosciutto, rosemary infused honey and creamy goat cheese on crusty French bread.

OMG! This Won’t be On Mom’s Menu

Yes, the latest assault on America’s waistline comes from of Friendly’s, a restaurant chain in the US….kind of like a Denny’s. They offer a Grilled Cheese Burger Melt. Move over KFC Double Down, there’s a something with far more calories to disgust and deteriorate your health.

Friendly’s gastronomical innovation is legendary…..for what? We don’t really know. The Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt appears to be inspired by similar “Fatty Melts” and “Chubby Melts” that have been served in the US South for a few years now, as well as the Midwest. What’s the nutritional content of the culinary monstrosity you may ask? According to the Friendly’s: 1500 Calories, 870 Fat Calories, 79g Total Fat, 38g Saturated Fat, 180g Cholesterol, 2090mg Sodium, 101g Carbs, 9g Dietary Fiber, 4g Sugar and 54g Protein. People, this is the equivalent of eating more than two Big Macs in one meal! Safe to say, this type of delicacy will not be on Mom’s menu anytime soon.
