In case you missed it, this past weekend was 420 Vancouver. Mom’s grilled Cheese Truck was there and let me tell you……there were some serious munchies going on! LOL. We sold out of almost everything on the tuck. It was an epic day. Makes you wonder about legalization, but that’s another topic. If you didn’t know, 420 is the world recognized international day of celebration for the planet’s estimated 250,000,000 members of the cannabis culture. There was live music by Kitty In The City, The Ponderosas and many more. An estimated 35,000 people turned out for the event, and about 20,000 of them chowed down grilled cheese! Pretty impressive event. If you are curious, feel free to reach out to Event Coordinator Jodie Emery at email@example.com. Dude, where’s my car?
If you didn’t know, this past week on April 12th was National Grilled Cheese Day! We’d like to thank Marke Driesschen the Weathercaster for CTV Morning Live and CTV News at Noon at CTV British Columbia team for stopping by and broadcasting live in Mom’s truck. Enjoy the video, with commercial
Now that our witty and entertaining blog is back in action after a hiatus for no apparent reason, we thought it might be a good time to offer you some interesting facts. Mom’s now has over 1,200 Twitter followers, we have broken the 220 Urban Spoon Likes, 94% give us a thumbs up on Urban Spoon, over 1,000 Likes on Facebook and we are lined up pretty much every day. You might start to think Mom’s is doing something right, eh?
Just so you know, the term “just the facts, ma’am,” came from the old TV show Dragnet, detective Joe Friday, originally played by jack Webb actually said it. Funny man, Canadian and SNL alum Dan Aykroyd modernized it. Enjoy your long Easter weekend!
Mom’s Grilled Cheese Tuck is rocking! In fact, a line up of miniature KISS fans formed all the way around the corner to taste the delectable cheese delight that is coming out of Mom’s kitchen. Well, actually…..we were about 20 working people in a line up on Monday, not around the block and no KISS representation either. It was an epic day though, thanks for stopping by. This is where we tie into the “rocking” reference and segway smoothly across the block from Mom’s to the TD Tower, where the good folks at Vancouver’s Classic Rock, Rock 101 and CKNW News have spoken wonderfully about our gourmet grilled cheese. We’d be happy to come up and cut the cheese with you! Happy Valentines Day!!
Cooked bread and cheese is an ancient food, according to food historians. It’s popular across the world in many cultures and some evidence indicates that in the U.S., the modern version of the grilled cheese sandwich originated in the 1920′s when inexpensive sliced bread and American cheese became easily available. We all know the modern day grilled cheese has been redefined at Mom’s right here in Vancouver though. The cheese dream became popular during the Great Depression. It was originally made as an open sandwich, but the top slice of bread became common by the 1960′s. U.S. government cookbooks describe Navy cooks broiling “American cheese filling sandwiches” during World War II. Many versions of the grilled cheese sandwich can now be found on restaurant menus across North America. Just a little history lesson for ya. Hey, it’s Meatloaf Monday!!
We thought is was time to revisit this classic, The Grilled Cheese Song by Elmer Fudd
He’s naked, he breaks every health code violation imaginable and he uses vodka! It’s the Nearly Naked Cook, and as long as you don’t mind some cigarette ashes in your grilled cheese…….enjoy our video of the day.
Yes, it is Meatloaf Monday, a hearty slice of homemade meatloaf surrounded by melted mozzarella and marinara sauce on crusty French bread. This is probably Mom’s most famous grilled cheese and offers the best filler for your lunch time hunger on a cold and wet Monday. Business and school is back to normal today, so we look forward to seeing you for a nice warm lunch, some comfort food like Mom used to make..
Come on, please Like Us on Urban Spoon, pretty please? We want to break the 200 likes barrier and we are currently at a 92% approval rating, that’s pretty, pretty, pretty good! Heck, 92% is the best grade Mom has ever received, too bad there wasn’t a grilled cheese class back in school. Image that, majoring in grilled cheese! A Masters degree in grilled cheese! Obtaining your Bachelor’s degree in grilling fromage!
Happy New Year! What a great day it is out there today, sunny, the snow capped mountains on the North Shore and Mom’s grilled Cheese Truck back on the streets for the first day of 2013. It’s a frosty morning and it will be a cold day today, so it is the perfect day to get yourself down to Mom’s for a hot grilled cheese sandwich, or maybe Mom’s now famous Roasted Tomato Soup topped with basil mascarpone…….or a piping hot large cup of Mom’s homemade chili topped with cheddar! Mmmmmmm, hot comfort foods on a cold January day, sounds like the ideal way to start your 2013 off perfectly. See you today for lunch.
