In case you missed it, this past weekend was 420 Vancouver. Mom’s grilled Cheese Truck
was there and let me tell you……there were some serious munchies going on! LOL. We sold out of almost everything on the tuck. It was an epic day. Makes you wonder about legalization, but that’s another topic. If you didn’t know, 420 is the world recognized international day of celebration for the planet’s estimated 250,000,000 members of the cannabis culture. There was live music by Kitty In The City, The Ponderosas and many more. An estimated 35,000 people turned out for the event, and about 20,000 of them chowed down grilled cheese! Pretty impressive event. If you are curious, feel free to reach out to Event Coordinator Jodie Emery at jodie@cannabisculture.com. Dude, where’s my car?

What a great week of weather we’ve had. Sunny and +18 truck side on Wednesday. Fresh off the 420 experience over the weekend
and selling out of everything we had on the truck, the sun has been out and the people are lined up again! We had a great turnout yesterday, thanks to everyone for waiting…..especially with one of our fabulous employees showing up a little late for the big lunch rush. It’s all good, we made it through. A special thanks to Hammy for stopping by with his BlackBerry Z10 and taking this great picture. See you today for lunch, the feature today is the Jackson 3!! A triple threat…three slices of sourdough with brie, Boursin, and gruyere.

Just the Cheese Facts, Ma’am
Now that our witty and entertaining blog is back in action after a hiatus for no apparent
reason, we thought it might be a good time to offer you some interesting facts. Mom’s now has over 1,200 Twitter followers, we have broken the 220 Urban Spoon Likes, 94% give us a thumbs up on Urban Spoon, over 1,000 Likes on Facebook and we are lined up pretty much every day. You might start to think Mom’s is doing something right, eh?
Just so you know, the term “just the facts, ma’am,” came from the old TV show Dragnet, detective Joe Friday, originally played by jack Webb actually said it. Funny man, Canadian and SNL alum Dan Aykroyd modernized it. Enjoy your long Easter weekend!
Expanded Hours For Your Belly!
We were on blogging vacation, but we’re back!! OK, some quick housekeeping items:
Mom’s is now open 7 days a week, look for us at our usual spot located on the corner of Robson & Howe by the Vancouver Art Gallery. We are also open in the evenings too, from 6 through 9PM. Get yourself down here for a warm spring-day lunch visit today, see you soon!
Food Fight!! Well, Not Really
Nothing the City of Vancouver does is without controversy or opponents, that’s politics baby! However one thing they have done very well, is the set up of our food cart program.
Good things happen in groups when it comes to food. Places like food districts, a combination of foods on your plate or even a good old fashion food fight like back in your high school days or in the classic movie Animal House. The City of Vancouver is now looking at expanding its food cart program with the adoption of Portland style pods that would allow a permanent cluster of carts to form outside the downtown core. Big thumbs up from Mom!
The city is looking to Portland for inspiration, as they have done throughout the food cart process. Portland’s food cart clusters are scattered in parking lots throughout the city, functioning as a food destination for locals and tourists. We even see it here in Vancouver at Mom’s, when we set up shop daily at the corner of Robson & Howe there seems to be a few others who also find a spot behind us, which is great. We didn’t even know we were called a cluster, yet our group of food trucks turns into a draw offering lunch goers a chance to make a selection. It just seems to draw more people out and it’s good for everyone.
If The Cheese Truck’s-a-Rocking……..
Mom’s Grilled Cheese Tuck is rocking! In fact, a line up of miniature KISS fans formed all
the way around the corner to taste the delectable cheese delight that is coming out of Mom’s kitchen. Well, actually…..we were about 20 working people in a line up on Monday, not around the block and no KISS representation either. It was an epic day though, thanks for stopping by. This is where we tie into the “rocking” reference and segway smoothly across the block from Mom’s to the TD Tower, where the good folks at Vancouver’s Classic Rock, Rock 101 and CKNW News have spoken wonderfully about our gourmet grilled cheese. We’d be happy to come up and cut the cheese with you! Happy Valentines Day!!
History of The Grilled Cheese Sandwich
Cooked bread and cheese is an ancient food, according to food historians. It’s popular across the world in many cultures and some evidence indicates that in the U.S., the
modern version of the grilled cheese sandwich originated in the 1920′s when inexpensive sliced bread and American cheese became easily available. We all know the modern day grilled cheese has been redefined at Mom’s right here in Vancouver though. The cheese dream became popular during the Great Depression. It was originally made as an open sandwich, but the top slice of bread became common by the 1960′s. U.S. government cookbooks describe Navy cooks broiling “American cheese filling sandwiches” during World War II. Many versions of the grilled cheese sandwich can now be found on restaurant menus across North America. Just a little history lesson for ya. Hey, it’s Meatloaf Monday!!

We thought is was time to revisit this classic, The Grilled Cheese Song by Elmer Fudd
A Blogging Drought, Help Us!
We are in a creative writing drought here at Mom’s. Mom’s truck was off for some
weekend repairs, and we figured an action picture on the road to the repair shop was riveting enough to post about. Yup, we need your help. If you have any ideas, please shoot us over your thoughts and help inspire us, please! Happy Monday, it’s always a great day when it’s Meatloaf Monday!!!
