Every now and then, we simply need to share something we stubble across on YouTube, like this amateur video on how to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Doesn’t this guy know anything……you never use a metal spatula on a Teflon pan!!! We have a warped sense of humor, hope you enjoy this video
We have the best wingman in Vancouver here at Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck, and he is available every Friday…and his name isn’t Goose. If you are sick of a wingman who is all talk, no results….a wingman who simply can’t help close the deal, get yourself to Mom’s tomorrow or every Friday as the new Friday special is The Wingman! We’ve taken buffalo wings meat, topped with hot sauce, a sprinkle of diced celery, mozzarella and havarti all on a crusty butter grilled French loaf. See you tomorrow.
If you have kids, you’ve likely discovered that 99.9% of kids love cheese. The rare kid won’t or might have a dairy allergy, but for the most part…..cheese rocks a kids world! We’ve had a lot of kids stop by Mom’s for their grilled cheese fix, be sure to stop by with your kids soon. If you can’t visit with your rug rats, we have a cheesy suggestion your kids just may like. Instead of Kraft dinner, try a great kids pasta called Annie’s Shells & White Cheddar (they have a number of other great selections too). Annie’s has been using organic ingredients since the very beginning back in 1998. As they say, “if it’s not real, it’s not Annie’s”. That’s why they support organic food practices and honest labeling. Next time you are at the grocery store, take a moment to compare what is on a Kraft Dinner ingredients label compared to an Annie’s ingredient label. Real cheese tastes better, and kids will notice the difference. Trust us, Mom’s knows cheese! Hey, we could raise a whole new generation of kids that ends up in college and university living on Annie’s instead of KD.
Remember the movie The Italian Job from 2003, about a gang of robbers who create the largest traffic jam in Los Angeles history, giving them time to pull off a theft of gold bullion. Then they get away in their Mini Coopers, awesome driving scene in the movie! Well there is a new Italian Job, and it’s available at Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck on Wednesdays. This is a killer grilled cheese….served on olive rosemary bread and stuffed with tomatoes, bocconcini, fresh basil, salt, pepper and specially grilled in garlic butter. Get yourself down here tomorrow for the new Wednesday special.
A quick shout out Sean, or if you peaked in the 80’s listening to Vanilla Ice…..”word to your Mother”, for his nice words on his blog Sean’s Adventures In Flavor Town. In Sean’s own words, “I was a happy, greasy handed camper when I was finished this yummy comfort food classic” . If you didn’t know, Sean is out there trying to find some of the best food that Vancouver has to offer without breaking the bank. Sean contributes to Eating In Vancouver, is the BC Regional Admin for the Food Bloggers of Canada website and is Silver Spoon for the now world famous Food Network show Eat St. Thanks Sean, yo VIP, let’s kick it……..yes, another shameless Vanilla Ice plug and while we are at it, enjoy Ice Ice Baby.
Keeping with the Phineas and Ferb theme this week, because the kids have spoken and they love it……what is Candace’s favorite food from Phineas and Ferb? Answer: She likes Grilled Cheese sandwiches. She is also apparently allergic to dairy so the grilled cheese thing might be an error on behalf of the paparazzi. Congratulations, it’s Friday you made it through the week, come down to Mom’s today for the Friday special, The La Di Da …..thinly sliced prosciutto, rosemary infused honey and creamy goat cheese on crusty French bread.
The perfect day, it’s made up of many different things for many people. This week, one of our customers was downtown for two specific things; lunch at Mom’s and a spa day, well actually a spa afternoon. If you have kids you likely have seen the hilarious kids cartoon Phineas and Ferb on Disney XD. If your kids are young, just wait until they are around 10, you’ll love this show! As I saw the kids enjoying Phineas and Ferb, they broke into the Spa Day Song…..which reminded me of our customer this week who was about to enjoy hers. Without further ado, enjoy Phineas and Ferb’s Spa day Song and try to work Mom’s into your special day as well.
Yes, the latest assault on America’s waistline comes from of Friendly’s, a restaurant chain in the US….kind of like a Denny’s. They offer a Grilled Cheese Burger Melt. Move over KFC Double Down, there’s a something with far more calories to disgust and deteriorate your health.
Friendly’s gastronomical innovation is legendary…..for what? We don’t really know. The Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt appears to be inspired by similar “Fatty Melts” and “Chubby Melts” that have been served in the US South for a few years now, as well as the Midwest. What’s the nutritional content of the culinary monstrosity you may ask? According to the Friendly’s: 1500 Calories, 870 Fat Calories, 79g Total Fat, 38g Saturated Fat, 180g Cholesterol, 2090mg Sodium, 101g Carbs, 9g Dietary Fiber, 4g Sugar and 54g Protein. People, this is the equivalent of eating more than two Big Macs in one meal! Safe to say, this type of delicacy will not be on Mom’s menu anytime soon.
If you really love grilled cheese, how far would you go to prove it? Well, some grilled cheese enthusiasts have actually been inked, yup, grilled cheese tattoos! Can you imagine! Sounds like something Will Farrell would do in a movie. On Google Images there are some great grilled cheese tattoos, not to be confused with Tattoo from Fantasy Island…..da plane, da plane Boss! Remember Hervé Villechaize in the classic TV show? Sadly, Hervé is no longer with us. Thanks to the beauty of YouTube, you can still enjoy his immense talent!
The most famous grilled cheese sandwich sold on eBay for $28,000 in November 2004. It was 10 years old and was believed to have the image of the Virgin Mary on it. The sandwich was purchased by an online casino that hoped to use it to make money for charities. GoldenPalace.com, an online casino, confirmed that it placed the winning bid, and company executives said they were willing to spend “as much as it took” to own the 10-year-old half-sandwich with a bite out of it. “It’s a part of pop culture that’s immediately and widely recognizable,” spokesman Monty Kerr told The Miami Herald. “We knew right away we wanted to have it.”
Photos posted on eBay show what can be viewed as a woman’s face emblazoned on the sandwich, a bite taken out of one end. “I would like all people to know that I do believe that this is the Virgin Mary Mother of God,” Duyser, a work-from-home jewelry designer, said in the casino’s statement. The online auction site initially pulled the sale, saying it didn’t post joke items. The page was restored after the company was convinced that Duyser would deliver on the bid, said eBay spokesman Hani Durzy.
Duyser said she took a bite after making the sandwich 10 years ago and saw a face staring back at her. She put the sandwich in a clear plastic box with cotton balls and kept it on her night stand. She said the sandwich has never sprouted a spore of mold. Mmmmmmmmm, yummy!
