Last week, Ned Bell took part in the second annual Greatest Grilled Cheese
Competition in Toronto and the Executive Chef at Yew Restaurant and the Four Seasons came in second. Well done Ned!
As reported on News 1130 by Sonia Aslam, Ned mixed it up and offered a few different sandwiches. “The ‘Simple’ was brie and cheddar from over on [Vancouver] Island. I did a ‘Spicy’ with two spicy cheeses from the Okanagan. And then I did a ‘Smoked’ with a really cool cheese, a wild smoked salmon, smoked cheddar.
He says making a good grilled cheese is quite easy and it’s great for people of all ages. “Especially now with kids going back to school. They are a great meal any time of the day and they are really quick to prepare.” If you’re wondering how to make the perfect grilled cheese, Bell has one tip that all chefs should follow. “One of the biggest challenges with people is they don’t crisp up their bread enough. You really want your bread to be crusty and crunchy, so then you have this buttery, crunchy crust on the outside and this gooey, cheesy, melted awesomeness in the middle.”
