In an attempt to keep it classy, without pulling out the Cheez Wiz, we’ve decided to offer you…..our valued customers, the best wine parings to accompany some of our grilled
cheese sandwiches. While we are not licensed to serve alcohol at Mom’s, I’m sure you’ve been at home in the evenings unwinding after work or with the kids and thought……I’d love a grilled cheese and a glass of wine. Here are some pairing recommendations:
The Jackson 3, three slices of sourdough with brie, Boursin, and gruyere. This classic pairs mighty well with a rich Chardonnay (the butter on the bread helps). The Hot Angie, with hot capicola, hot peppers and havarti on sourdough or if you make your own cheddar & bacon sandwich, red is the way to go, but not too heavy. Pinot Noir would be ideal, or any light- to medium-bodied red with reasonable acidity would work well. Mom’s Meatloaf, a hearty slice of homemade meatloaf surrounded by melted mozzarella and marinara sauce on crusty French bread blends well with a rich and bold red. Their big, hearty meaty flavors are rich and gratifying.
If you are on a tight budget, some wonder bread, a little butter and a Kraft singles slice of cheese pairs beautifully with Andres Baby Duck. The colour of red Jolly Ranchers, the nose is blackberry and mealy strawberry, with confected rock candy and mild wild berry aromas. It definitely has some sugar and coarse bubbles, with cherry and strawberry rock candy aromas on the palate. Mmmmmmm.
