Hello my lovelies…we’re being temporarily moved to Howe and Robson today, because of filming at our regular spot. MIght be a bit closer, might be a bit farther. Either way, I’m looking forward to melting for you. By the way…we’re going to be right down the road from Sarb at Soho Road…if you’re feeling like spicing it up, try ‘Soho Road’ just up the road on Howe, South of Robson. Sarb has a full on Tandoori oven in his truck, and it is seriously the best food I have ever had!
Lots going on today at Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck. By now most of the free world knows it’s Ali’s Birthday today, so be sure you have the special today named after him……. ‘Hot & Spicy Ali’…Hot Capicola, Spiced Gouda on some awesome Artisan Country Bread!!! The crowds continue to flock here for lunch and we are really pleased with our improved serving time as we are starting to nail-down our process of creating gourmet grilled cheese lunches, soups and chilli in a quick time frame. Hey, if you want your lunch in 45 seconds, go grab a Big Mac and try your luck at the 1 in 4 odds to win at Monopoly at McDonalds! You can’t rush quality baby! The Occupy Vancouver campsite is still in full swing right beside us, they’ve been great to the Mom’s staff and our customers……although their drumming repertoire could use a few more selections
Ali is my trusted sidekick on Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck, and it’s his birthday tomorrow..Come by for a ‘Hot And Spicy Ali’…Hot Cappicola, Spiced Gouda on some awesome Artisan Country Bread!!!! Don’t forget to give Ali the gears about turning 28!!!
Now that I’ve got your attention, grilled cheese lovers and casual Mom’s customers can have lunch for free if we use your recipe, and we’ll make it the ‘special of the day’…and and name it after you too!
Yup, if you have a classic grilled cheese recipe you grew up with, or a great creation you’ve invented, send it over. If we pick your recipe, you will be honoured and immortalized in the hollows of the grilled cheese greats. Is there actually a grilled cheese hall of fame? No, sadly there is not. However, the competitive grilled cheese eating world record is held by Joey Chestnut (featured in picture). He out-ate the competition by scarfing down 49 grilled cheese sandwiches in 10 minutes!! Get up Joey!
It’s Monday, the sunshine is out and will be for the next couple of days! No better way to enjoy a gourmet grilled cheese than stopping in at Mom’s today for lunch. We’ll have a great special featured today, our new business process and flow is getting smoother and were serving it up quicker every day. We’ll be open at 11:30 to start what has become the the daily lining up of customers, I guess we must be doing something right. Hope to see you soon!
The cheese is melting like nobody’s business! Non stop, every day, line ups and running out of stock….all good problems, I’m not complaining. We got to thinking how prominent cheese is in our lives. It’s everywhere, we can’t escape it. For example; Cheese-head, a cheesy comment, cheese please, cut the cheese, cheesecake, cheesecake factory, the big cheese, cheese omelette, say cheese, burger & cheese, chalk and cheese, the cheese stands alone and what might be the most famous cheese reference of all time…… Macaroni & Cheese (aka in Canada Kraft Dinner). Long live the cheese!
Wow, thanks to everyone who has Liked, Tweeted, Re-Tweeted, Dugg, Stumbled Upon, Linked and Shared. I’m also thrilled with the attention Mom’s Grilled Cheese Truck is getting, check this out:
Sean’s Adventures In Flavor Town, “My adventures, finds and good eats all around Vancouver”. Street Food App and Urban Spoon, where when I last checked 71% liked it…..who the heck didn’t like it!!? Can’t forget Vancouver Slop, thanks Matt!
Bread and Cheese Unite! Two slices at a time.
Nothing can stop Mom from melting the cheese! Taylor Sharpe, we’re making ‘The Sharpie’ on Wednesday. You comin’? Goat brie, procuitto, caramelized onions…
Mom’s Grilled Cheese Tuck is rocking! In fact, a line up of miniature KISS fans formed all the way around the corner to taste the delectable cheese delight that is coming out of Mom’s kitchen. Well, actually…..we were about 40 working people deep into a line up on Friday, not around the block and no KISS representation either. It was an epic day and we ran out of many lunch items, sorry. I guess that’s a good problem, as the saying goes. However, this is where we tie into the “rocking” reference and segway smoothly across the block from Mom’s to the TD Tower, where the good folks at Vancouver’s Classic Rock, Rock 101 and CKNW News are rumoured to be fans of our gourmet grilled cheese. We’d be happy to come up and cut the cheese with you! Also, a thank you and sincere apologies to some of our customers who had a bit of a wait for their lunch. As you know, we have officially been in business for one week now! We are starting to refine our processes, flow and how efficiently we can roll a quality meal out to you in as quick a time as possible. Thank you for your patience, we are almost there.
So after all the sampling of Mom’s great menu over the past few days, we have people constantly asking about our cheese. Let me tell you, this isn’t your average cheese from the grocery store, no Sir! This is cheese from the one and only La Grotta Del Formaggio in Vancouver on Commercial Drive, also known as The Drive.
From this is a great little Italian deli, comes the finest selection of cheeses in Vancouver….and many will argue anywhere outside of Europe. This is a classic place and they have been doing it right for generations. This is such an old school operation, they don’t even have a web site. Forgetaboutit! If you are in their neighborhood, check’m out!
